Course Description:

This practicum course is designed for students who have successfully completed the Sierra Cataloging: Item Entry series (TS000-TS005) and wish to apply their knowledge in a practical setting. In this hands-on course, participants will learn to add item records within the Sierra database on a test server, while also gaining familiarity with item record templates.

Upon successful completion of the Sierra Cataloging: Item Entry – Item Record (TS006) course, students will receive a temporary named tech login, which will grant access to the production server for the Item Entry – Practicum (TS007) course. It is essential to complete all course elements in sequential order, as progression depends on the successful completion of previous sections.

Membership Level: Fully Participating, Basic Online & Union List library staff

Key Course Elements:

• Submission of the Sierra Tech Login Approval Form, which requires supervisor approval for access.
• Access to course materials, including video content (approximately 21 minutes) and documentation, available under "Files."
• Self-paced learning with support from instructors via the "Send message" function.

Course Objectives:

• Enhance matching skills and item entry proficiency.
• Gain practical experience in utilizing the Sierra database.

Prerequisites:

• Completion of TS000-TS005 and TS006 courses.
• Access to the PrairieCat support site using L2 username and password for policies and procedures documentation.

Additional Information:

• Allow up to one week for assignments to be reviewed and graded.
• For quiz completion, students can navigate between questions but will not have access to view the entire quiz at once.
